Panago North Lethbridge has a history of recognizing our local heroes in the emergency services field.
On Sept. 11 each year, Panago North Lethbridge traditionally recognized our local heroes and donated a free lunch and supper to both shifts at all of the fire halls across the city.
Last year, Wade Pierson, Panago North store owner, approached Chris Tomaras, Deputy Chief of Operations for Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services with a different idea.
“I pitched to him, ‘Hey, instead of feeding the fireman, how about we feed the kids and donate to the Poverty Intervention fund in the Lethbridge School Division,’ and he was all in on it,” said Pierson.
Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services jumped at the opportunity to support students.
“When he approached us with this idea to feed the kids instead of ourselves, it was a no brainer,” said Tomaras. “We’re here to serve the public and this is just another way that we can do that.”
Last year, the collaboration resulted in an $800 cheque for the Division’s Poverty Intervention Committee.
On Thursday afternoon, Panago North stopped by the Division’s Education Centre (Blackfoot Name Aakaipookaiski, Meaning: Many Children) to drop off a cheque for $911 to help the Division support students in need.
“We want to express our extreme gratitude for community contributions like this, which really make it possible for all students in our Division to learn,” said Lethbridge School Division Trustee Kristina Larkin.
